opinions on the substack app for iOs

my viewpoints only

It’s been a while since I last wrote on my Substack. I wanted to hold off until I had something new to share. Nothing earth-shattering has happened lately: my job is going great and I’m learning tons, but today I want to talk about the Substack iOS app.

I’ve only used it for about 30 minutes, and on the whole it works fine. The one big thing I can’t figure out is how to post. I’ve hunted for a “New Post” or “Compose” button, but there doesn’t seem to be one. On the plus side, subscribing to creators is a breeze. I’ve already followed a few writers and topics, and I’m hoping those subscriptions sync with the web version.

Accessibility is solid too—except for one annoyance: media autoplay. Whether I’m accidentally swiping over it with VoiceOver on or it’s just kicking off on its own, audio and videos start playing without warning, and I can’t find any way to stop it. If you know how to disable autoplay in the iOS app, please share!

I’ll be back next week with my (almost) not-so-great experience using the Royal Caribbean cruise app.
